R6260 Firewall

I do not know much about routers besides how to find an ip address and hook up. I tried to go through the walkthrough and it stops right before connection. I called support and they want me to purchase a firewall. My question is do these routers come with built in firewall? It is aggrevating after spending almost $100 on the router that I have to spend another just to get it working.

  • There is a firewall (iptables) built-in in every NG router. Not sure which "support" you called that tries to sell you a "firewall"? NG's support is outsourced to GearHead. That's the only valid support. All others are scam sites pretending to offer official support for NG

Thanks, Thats what i thought that these routers included firewalls.  I did use the netgear app as well as scanned the QR on the router itself. I just dont understand why I have to purchase a firewall and if there is a way around that. Thanks for responding

That almost certainly was not Netgear support. Mention of a firewall is a big warning sign. It is nonsense designed to steal your money.

If you called a number that you found with a web search, that almost certainly had nothing to do with Netgear.

Netgear itself does not provide paid for support. It farms handles that through GearHead Technical Support, which supports all sorts of kit.

    GearHead Support

Web searches can deliver results that scream "Netgear support" at the top but that turn out to be anything but. Using them can be dangerous, for your network and your bank balance.

New buyers can initiate a support call through MyNetgear.

If you login to mynetgear, can you see your device there?

    MyNETGEAR | Login

If so, that is where to ask for support.

If you aren't eligible for free support, this place costs nothing.

That is also where you can start the process to replace things that have broken within the warranty period.
