R7000 2.4ghz not working but 5ghz is fine
Firmware 1.0.4.30 and 1.0.4.28 tried for weeks at a time.
Wireless devices connected to 5ghz band are all working perfectly and have been since i purchased this router at the beginning of June 2015.
As of 1.5 months ago, 2.4ghz band has been very intermittent, and at this point i was already using firmware 1.0.4.30. Rebooting the router did not do anything. I do not have any settings on the router except the ssid, password and channels.
I tried going back to firmware 1.0.4.28 and that only worked for maybe 2 days, then the disconnects started again. i have been using Wifi Analyzer app on my tablet just to see if there is a transmission signal from the router. 5ghz band has a constant transmission signal however the 2.4ghz band has an off to on time of maybe 3:1 at the best of times. This allows me to SOMETIMES connect to the router while on 2.4ghz band, but usually it will not connect. I have been forced to connect my desktop via a really long ethernet cable and older devices no longer have internet connections. I am currently still monitoring the off to on time and the worst as of yet is about 10:1. Basically the 2.4 ghz band is completely dead minus random spikes of it showing up.
I've seen a few posts with the 5ghz band issue similarly but no fix either. I used to have a wndr3700 and that worked fine until the range on the router out of nowhere and permanently dropped by about 25% causing me to buy a repeater to get coverage. Using the repeater solved the distance issue but then i had issues with connection speed (not huge but noticeable). I figured buying an R7000 would be a no brainer since its a top of the line unit and priced as such. I am very disappointed as i haven't been able to find a fix anywhere for this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Good news! We now have a production version of firmware that should resolve the 2.4 GHz issue, v1.0.5.64. You may download this firmware from our R7000 page here: http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/en/product/R7000#searchResults
As IrvSp correctly notes, this version of firmware fixes the 2.4 GHz issue and reinstates the new features, such as Kwilt, Smart Connect, and WiFI Transmit Power Control. It does not support Arlo. We hope to have a beta version that supports Arlo in the next two weeks.
We welcome any feedback you provide on this new firmware, and appreciate your patience as we resolved these issues. Thank you all for supporting the R7000 and NETGEAR!

Sounds like a broken record, but same problem 5ghz and 2.4guest work fine but 2.4ghz does not work since upgrading firmware to v1.0.6.28 today. Plan to do the factory reset per TheEther. However, KazzMania's post is a headsup to getting in the RMA line. Thanks for starting this thread ... thought I was the only one with an exotic issue that no one had ever encountered ... glad to have found this.
Update ... spent much of the afternoon doing a Factory Reset and reloading settings. IT WORKED! Wireless devices can now access 2.4ghz. Thanks, TheEther.

Factory reset only temporarily fixes the 2.4G wifi, the problem isn't fixed. You can also temporarily fix the 2.4G by enabling and disabling the wifi using the button on the router.
- fenomatikAspirantI have tried downgrading to all old firmwares plus a hard rest but 2.4ghz doesn't let my devces to connect .upgraded to latest firmware as well but no use . with the old firmwares 2.4 goes completely offline .
Also why its broadcasting arlo network ? Also tried to disable arlo broadcast but didn't solve the problem. - fenomatikAspirant
- KazzMANIAApprenticeHate to say it fellows but this is not likely a firmware issue. You need to get a more recent version via RMA.

And good luck contacting the support. I had a ton of stupid questions like what is my ISP, having mentionned the fact that the issue already appears in a local-only network, and linked that very topic… Three days after that first contact, I'm still answering that kind of questions, without any real progress.

It's time for everyone to start tweeting to them:
Public shaming is often the one way to get a response to something like this.

The problem seemed to start with the change of firmware; even though others report downgrading firmware doesn't fix the issue.
Let's hope Netgear fixes this very soon!

As downgrading the firmware doesn't help, I can see two obvious possibilities:
- a firmware (probably 1.0.4 or 1.0.5 regarding the date they were published) broke some component (or at least a specific variant used in some R7000 batches),
- a component used in some R7000 batches has a limited life duration (manufacturing problem happens), that we reached
The fact that flashing an old firmware doesn't solve the issue, coupled with the fact that many R7000 broke at pretty much the same time is clearly disturbing.

Doh! I least you all read this forum before I did. I had the same2.4ghz issue after firmware update. I have the R7000 router and 6200 extender setup. Thought maybe the 2.4 radio was going bad in my extender. Did all the factory resets and such but didn't matter. So I bought a new ex7000 extender and installed yesterday. Guess what? Still have the 2.4 problem today! And i'm down $150 bucks.
- KazzMANIAApprenticeHow long ago did you roll back? Has is been completely stable?
- Kang2Aspirant
its been 8 days since the rollback.
- KazzMANIAApprenticeHORRIBLE NEWS! Yesterday my 2.4ghz dropped on the new R7000 after running two days without issue. I rebooted the router and, as in the past, the problem was resolved. Today it failed again, exactly as before. So, this brand new router with a much newer serial number than my first router has same problems. I just finished rolling back to 1.0.4.28_1.1.64. I will report any problems

Seriously, it's time to start tweeting to Netgear. I've also written to the CEO.
- KazzMANIAApprenticeI'm in. I'll start tonight

Ouch! Was that painful! 23 devices that had to be setup again. Took one day to figure out what happened and another to get most back online. Many not easy like cameras that must be dismounted and taken to a PC to determine the new IP address.
I'll never push the Update button again and probably never buy Netgear again. Shame on them. Can't imagine what happened to businesses that put their trust in them.

Everything was fine for more than 2 years until the latest firmware but it gaves me so much trouble that I too will not buy another Netgear rooter.

I seam to have the same problem but only when I activate the guest network on the 2,4 Ghz band. When the guest network is off and rebooted everything seams to work fine.
Great solution Le-Blanc!!!! :smileyvery-happy:
The solution worked for me. Had forgotten I had enabled guest on 2.4GHz (turned off the broadcast SSID but left enabled). Disabled guest on 2.4GHz (guest was never enabled on 5GHz) and did a reboot, now devices are connecting.
Here are some findings I made in addiditon. 2.4GHz would work, if you disabled any security. I tured it off, rebooted and could connect, but if I tried to enable any security protocol it would not work, always got authentication errors and low signal reports from android and apple products. Odd it would work without any security defined even with guest enabled.
I had the guest network enabled when I was trying this and found that removing any security fixed the problem. So now I am wondering if I enabled guest and used security if 2.4GHz channes would work again? Not adventorous or enough spare time to try and see, that is the job of netgear technicians who should be testing the firmware before releasing it or enabling the silly upgrade from GUI link (yes I did this like the others and found the same results, loss of 2.4GHz).
I am now happily running Firmware Version V1.0.6.28_1.1.83 now on my R7000 but without the benefit of a guest account on 2.4GHz. This isn't too inconvienent for myself BUT... a product sold with advertised capabilities should always to able to run ALL capabilities as designed and advertised 100% of the time. Something is wrong with present firmware version that needs to be fixed or communicated in a service notice send to all users outlining: Issue, behavior, work around (disabling guest accounts), reasons for the behavior, and patch/fix time table.
- KernaldGuide
Sadly this is not a solution for everyone: guest network was never enabled on mine. I'll try without security on 2.4GHz, just to check.
