R7000: Device Name / Access Control

Yes you are right ARP doest get the host/device name but tool allows to have a handy name the we can used to remember. It doesnt change the way we connect or any functionality. As the details are stored in accordance with MAC filter. So as IP Reservation. ACL have it own DB but IP Reservation sometimes doesnt cache even the QOS by device doesnt cache the same name instead the actual ANDROID_abcd etc
ACL tool just adds tagging kind of which used to be refered even after reboot i dont think so if it flushs so that every time user needs to add .

While this solution will work for me until such time that I switch to dd-wrt,
THIS IS JUST A SUPERFICIAL FIX.
Let me explain:
I've experimented with changing the hostname on several
devices (openSuse, KX Studio, Windows 7, Android 4.[something-or-other])
and rebooting everything:
THE DEVICE NAME DOES NOT CHANGE ON THE NETGEAR GENIE ATTACHED DEVICES PAGE.
THE DEVICE NAME REMAINS EXACTLY AS I MANUALLY CHANGED IT ON THE ACCESS CONTROL PAGE.
One other odd thing.
After editing the name in Access Control for one of my devices
(and rebooting before the next step)
I needed to reserve an address for it in DHCP.
On the Advanced > Setup > LAN Setup page, the Device Name
displayed under Address Reservation was the old
not-user-friendly android-[MAC address]-[blahblahblah] Device Name
that I never did figure out where the R7000 pulled that from.
So, I edited the Device Name in Address Reservation to match what I had
done in Access Control, and all is well. By the way, the name in
Address Reservation also did not change when I changed the hostname
on the device.
So, this a a manual process. If you change a device hostname
you will need to edit the Device Name on the R7000.
I dont really agree irrespective of that router and devices talks to each other via mac even though we say host which hits the IP/ which is prime for mac association.
I think I see what you are saying. Maybe.
However, regardles of ANYTHING,
the fact is that when I change the device name in Access Control,
NOTHING changes that name from that point on.
Nothing other that editing the Device Name in Access Control on the R7000.
I'm stable and using an older FW version than you. However, I've givien up trying to edit device names on the ACL or on devices I have reserved IP's for. While the changes save, and are retained for a time, eventually, they revert back to the devices host name. The worst offenders are my Roku and VOIP phone. I've changed them in the routers GUI as well as the Genie App for Android, but at some point one or more of the devices reverts. I cannot edit the host name on my Roku (nor do I care enough to do it). Its not crucial for me, so I haven't bothered to investigate or attempt to reproduce.

If so, then something is really odd here.
Just for the record, here's my spotty understanding of things:
ARP is used to get device names.
Device Names are stored in ARP cache.
Names from a device are from NETBIOS / hostname (if samba.conf not configured) / SAMBA.
ARP cache periodically flushed (minutes? hours? weeks?).
ARP Device Name cache is what is displayed in Attached Devices / Access Control list.
Questions:
If ARP cache peridically flushed, and cached names displayed in Conneted Devices / Access Control list,
why does a tool exsist to edit device names in access control list?
Should I expect names to revert after reboot / power cycle?
(I am still waiting for the names I changed on the R7000 2 months ago to revert.)
