R7000 hangs and rebooting after Sandisk Ultra Fit USB 3.0 attached

Hi All,

I have a problem with my Netgear R7000 after I attached brand new SANDISK ULTRA FIT USB 3.0 FLASH DRIVE 128GB to USB 3.0 port. The rourter recognized the usb successfully, the drive shown in the admin page and be able to access within local network via ReadyShare.

The symptoms start when I'm adding torrent files in NETGEAR DOWNLOADER and they're start downloading. Afther short period of time (few minutes), the router becomes slow and not respond properly, then reboot automatically. I tried with other USB devices and there is no problem. Is there anyone experience this issue?

Firmware V1.0.8.34_1.2.15
Problematic USB Device: Sandisk Ultra Fit USB 3.0 128GB (full format to NTFS)

Please see router logs below. The router got rebooted after these logs.

  • Possible that the router's usb port can not handle the current that the attached drive needs does it have a external power supply connection port on the drive?

  • Thank you for your suggestion. However even if it would work, it doesn't make sense that the router works with usb 3.0 device attached to usb 2.0 port :(

I know but thats what other people have found that works, I like a nas servicer it gives a static ip address and more control over your files but there is no one perfect answer just what willing to do and want you like.

I've done the test attaching the USB to usb 2.0 port the back and unfortunately the issue still persist. The router started not responding and can't access to the localhost (but did not reboot) :(

  • Thank you for your suggestion. Do you think is it worth to try rollback or re-update FW? If yes, could you please suggest how I can proceed? Thank you in advance.
