R7000 Nighthawk- Cant access router settings in browser or app

I recently noticed on my iphone in my wifi that I have weak security WEP. It recommends upgrading to WPA2 or WPA3. I have been to the routerlogin.net or .com and never se the login after doing all of the cache and data dumps in all 3 browsers and I always get the same page that only recommends that I get the app...which I have already and have updated the firmware and everything but still no way in the app that I can see to get to the WEP option to set to WPA2 or 3. Can anyone help me figure this out?

  • routelogin.net should get you to the router login page.  Put in the username and password you assigned and it takes you to the router dashboard.  From here you can change all those settings.

I'm having a hard time working out what you are doing. Are you trying to get into the router's controls with the web browser and the graphical user interface (GUI)?

The Nighthawk app (iOS or Android?) can manage only a limited set of stuff. When it comes to the WPA, by default, as your manual says "Your router comes with preset WPA2 or WPA security".

Manuals are always a good place to start.

    Visit the support pages:

    Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

Check the section in the manual Change the WiFi Password or Security Level

You may have done that already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear gave up on supplying paper manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

Thanks Michael, I think what I was reacting to on my iphone was in the wifi setting I was not connected to 5G and was instead at 2.4. and I didnt realize that. I guess thats why the message blow on my iphone said the security was weak. So I switched to 5G and the message below on the wifi setting on my phone didnt say "Weak Security" under it anymore.

Yes originally I was trying the GUI approach but the login screen doesn't display, even after clearing cache in browsers. All I ever see is the login page with download and shop options. At the base of the page it has troubleshooting steps for each browser to clear cache and I tried all of those and still see the same page when I enter the url they listed for login. Ill attach what I see.

So the other option I have seen on this page
      https://kb.netgear.com/27199/I-can-t-access-my-router-what-do-I-do

mentions using the app as the recommended way to edit settings on the router

Within the app I cant get to a router settings edit mode only the armor security promo.

Is there a way to edit router settings in the app?

Not the ones I pointed to. The app is there to manage just basic stuff. It has some control over WiFi security, based on the firmware and the hardware.

        Check the WiFi settings tile.

But there is more that you can do with the GUI.

That you can't access that may be worth pursuing. What happens when you use a browser?

How do I log in to my NETGEAR wireless router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

A wired connection is best, but a browser on  a mobile can also get in there.

The usual boilerplate questions to eliminate some of the more common issues that crop up here.

What firmware version do you have on the device?

A number is more useful than "the latest". There may be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware with an app or in the browser interface.

If there is one it might also help if you told people the make and model number of the modem/gateway/ONT that connects this router to the Internet. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?

I ask because a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

Having two routers on a network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems.

Can you access the routers web page with a wireless or ethernet connected PC or Laptop and web browser at 192.168.1.1?
