R7000 QOS Performance Optimization database not updating

 I have not been able to update the Performance Optimization Database despite it being set on automatic. In the attached picture, the database is over four years old. I have hit the Update Now button but nothing happens after a long time. Report Attempting to Connect to Netgear server.  Is there a newer database and if there is, how do I get the update to be applied.

    That screenshot shows that you have ~200 Mbps Internet. That is not far off the zone that plemans mentions when QOS is more a hindrance than a help.

     

    Are you an avid gamer? Do you see any slowdowns when on line?

     

    If this is a serious issue, the Netgear's gaming routers with DumaOS may be worth trying.

     

    Otherwise, just get on with your life. But be aware that your R7000 dates back to 2017. If speed is really important, something newer might be worth investigating.

    QoS isn't even worth having enabled if you have reasonable fast service as it'll slow the router down on that device. It was released in 2013 and while a flagship device when it was released, its pretty slow now. Qos, parental controls, access controls, and traffic monitoring are recommended to be turned off if you have speeds over 240mbps.

      Thanks for the information. QOS was never turned on until this week. I was trying to solve buffering with my streaming devices, a Fire TV stick. Intermittent buffering for 5-20seconds at various times throughout the days. we have a 1GBps service and regularly measure 750MBps on wired computer connection with 1GB NIC and 200MBps on Fire TV which is WiFi connected.  

      I have disabled the QOS.

        I will back up what others are saying here. The R7000 is a bit long in the tooth.  I used it for years until a couple years ago when it started causing problems because it couldn't handle the internet speed or provide the bandwidth for the number of devices I had at that time anymore.  Even though I really liked the router, there came a time when an upgrade was needed.  Those demands are even greater now with the new stuff out now.

         

        I really think that is your case here.  There are some really good replacements that will handle Wi-fi 6 and even 7 now that you would immediately notice a difference from a 10-year-old router.

    The QoS data base services were decommissioned years ago. Newer generation routers Qos is mostly automatic and with 1Gb services being more common these days, QoS may not be really needed.

      While the Netgear R7000 screenshot shows a speed of about 200mbps, our subscribed internet service is 1Gbps, regularly measuring 750mbps wired (1GB NIC) and about 650mbps via WiFi devices, using speedtest.net. The discrepancy in WiFi speed between my laptop and the R7000 is of concern but I have not spent the time to figure out why it exists. I am not a gamer, but we use IPTV via dedicated streaming devices (wired) and Fire TV (WiFi). My intent was to enable QOS to give grater bandwidth to the streaming devices. The WiFi streaming devices regularly buffers for up to 20 seconds about very ten minutes. 

      My concern was why does the R7000 not connect to the NetGear Streaming Database Assistant, despite several.  attempts. I know the devices is 2017 vintage, however, there should be no limitation in the R7000 that cause the device to not connect.

      I read the notes from FURRYe38 that the DB was discontinued. I will continue the was it is.

        WiFi speeds are never as high as wired speeds. The WiFi from an R7000 is also several generations behind the latest.

         

        Only you know what technology sits in your laptop. That's the place to look for solutions to slow WiFi at that end. A router can deliver a gazillion bps, but a client that can't handle more than 200 Mbps is stuck on that.

         

        If you want to dig deeper, it might be worth a bit of background reading.
