Constantly dropping connection over wifi with laptop and android smartphone. The router is unusable at times. It's been like this since the last 2 or 3 firmware updates.

  • Hi All,

Reset the router to factory default and manually reconfigure it.

  • My Nest thermostat has been dropping every few minutes after the firmware upgrade.  My iPhone also disappears from the list of attached devices.

Last week I took my R7000 out of service because I (and especially my gamer kids) were getting sick of randomly losing the internet connection.  Would happen 3-4 times every day and last from 20 sec. to 1 minute, then "fix itself".  I would always update the firmware when a new one was releaded.  The new router that I leased from my ISP has worked flawlessly.  My ISP has noted ZERO connection problems with the line running to our house.

So I get the restoring factory default process but can you further explain the manual setup procedure?  What specific "things" (DNS, IP address, etc.) will I have to do manually?  I'd like to be as prepared as possible should I deceide to go this way.

It sucks having a $250 router (purchased 2 years ago) and it doesn't work reliably!

p.s. it worked fine up until a few months ago.  I blamed it on the modem but that wasn't the problem.
