R8000 Drops some wifi connections
For the past few months, my R8000 has been dropping wifi connections. I am running the latest firmware (V1.0.3.36_1.1.25)
The devices that drop include laptops, iPhones, and a Samsung media player. What is unique about this is that these devices cannot reconnect until the router is reset.
Range or signal obstructions do not appear to be an issue given the size of my house and centralized placement of my router. I performed a factory reset two weeks ago and am still experiencing these issues. Do I really need to roll back to a previous firmware? Doesn't that expose my router to more threats? Is there a way for me to get detailed troubleshooting information? Very upset given the price of this router.
- Yes, I resolved the problem by going to beat purchasing a Linksys WRT3200. Got sick of my girlfriend telling me to reset the router every day after work because phone/laptop/smart tv won't connect.
I did everything suggested and then some before even posting here. I work as a network engineer so I know when I've exhausted realistic troubleshooting options. I could toggle through every channel but as mentioned before, reviews on various storefront pages suggest that these problems are common with this line of router.
I am very disappointed. A $250 router should last more than a year and a half. Like I said before, disconnected devices (multiple types and manufacturers) would not be able to reconnect until the router was reset. That is a Netgear issue, not a user issue.

Hi mhanni,
When you say reset, you mean pressing the reset button of the router or just power cycling it? - mhanniGuideI log into the router interface through my browser and click reset router.
- mhanniGuideHi james,
I wasn't able to resolve the issue. As far as I can tell from various message boards and Amazon reviews, lots of folks have this issue with this model. Looking into purchasing a Linksys Router. - mhanniGuideYes, I resolved the problem by going to beat purchasing a Linksys WRT3200.
