R9000 Plex Media Server Setup Problem

Trying to setup Plex Media Server on my R9000 router and I am able to:

  1. Connect USB 3 drive to router
  2. Click on "Enable Plex Media Server"
  3. Open Plex is enabled and I can click on it
  4. When clicking on Open Plex I am able to login into my Plex account
  5. Plex is "Looking for servers"

Steps so far:

  • I have stopped and restarted Plex service on router, as well as router itself several times
  • I am on the same subnet as the router when openning within Netgear Genie
  • I have also removed the Library folder on the USB drive several times

Please help so I can setup Plex on my R9000 router.

  • Solution was to change my network IP address to use the default 192.168.1.1 as it was what Plex is looking for during install.  After install, you can change the IP address back to whatever it used to be.

Unfortunately, because I was using Plex Live TV, the router processor was not powerful enough to transcode the video.  Better to use a server if using Plex Live TV but if just playing media without the transcoder, the Netgear router should be suffficient.

Assuming you meant page 116 for setting up Plex Media Server.  Yes, I have gone through that setup many times.  I am not able to get to step 9c where I can add the library.

I am also on Router Firmware v 1.0.2.40 and Plex version 1.9.2.4285-9f65b88ae  Sep 25, 2017.

How much space are used in the USB drive? Can you try a smaller one just to check?

By the way, have you tried resetting the router?
