Thanks Roger SC - I did the factory default reset before each upgrade as you suggested. You must do a factory default reset after each upgrade, and manually re-entering your configuration. I am currently running the latest firmware and it is has been pretty stable since then. I am not sure why all the times I talked to netgear support that they did not mention this as a potential issue.
