Removed the legacy Time Machine backup feature

I have the R7800, and there is suddenly a new firmware available, but i hessitate to update because the firmware update says:  Removed the legacy Time Machine backup feature.

I have a Time Machine connected to it with ETH. Will there be a problem with my Time Machine after I update the router to the latest firmware?

Anybody with any experiences on this?

I didn't ever use the feature but my understanding was it was for connecting a hard drive to the router and using the hard drive as a time machine backup. Don't quote me on that as I'm not an apple guy (even slightly).

So if you have an actual time machine/capsule (?) that is hardwired in via ethernet, you should be fine.

Worse case, make a backup and if it causes issues, you can always downgrade.

Not that "suddenly". That firmware is more than three months old.

I recall a few issues reported here.

Search - NETGEAR Communities – Time Machine R7800

It isn't easy to interpret Netgear's release notes. (Nothing new there.) But given the way that Apple does things, it may be that Netgear has removed something that Apple no longer supports.

Remember, installing new firmware isn't a one-way process. If you find that it does break things you can always roll back.
