Reset Button

re new Nighthawk D7000

Problem 1

It arrived yesterday. Was setting it up with my internet provider. There was a problem so she asked me to reset it.
I tried & tried but it appears to not be working at all....ie it doesn't depress....lights don't change or blink....firstly used the little tool that comes with Apple phones & then a large paper clip.  It arrived all packaged in a box. Could it simply be broken

Problem 2

To get around this I went to do a firmware upgrade because an update was showing on the Netgear website.  I tried it on 2 different laptops in two different browsers.  It just appeared to be jammed on a message that was flickering & says firmware was downloading.  Again no lights blinking....and I left it doing this for 20 minutes and there was no change

Can anyone help? It would be so challenging if I have to return it bc it's faulty.....I need it for my work...

D7000[v1] or D7000v2?  Look for "Model" on the product label.
    Firmware version?  Connected to what?

    > [...] it doesn't depress [...]

There should be a little movement (less than a mm?) with a little
detent/click.  No significant force is needed.

    > [...] lights don't change or blink [...]

I'd expect an immediate change to the Power indicator, with more
    flashing stuff after 5-10 seconds.

    > [...] It arrived all packaged in a box. Could it simply be broken

Ask the seller?  Anything _could_ be broken.  Someone could have
shoved a suitable punch into the hole, hard, and wrecked the
    (non-very-strong) switch.

       "tried it" how, exactly?

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Downloads.  (For older versions, under Firmware and
Software Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".)  Find the
kit(s).  Download the kit(s) you want.  Read the "Release Notes" file
for instructions.  (In the User Manual, look for "firmware", and,
especially, for a topic like "Manually Upload Firmware to the Router".)
When that fails because of a deficient User Manual, try:

       https://kb.netgear.com/23960

If you can get logged into the thing with a web browser, then there
might be a non-mechanical control at ADVANCED > Administration > Backup
Settings : Revert to factory default settings.

Is this "Netgear website" the support pages for your device? Or was that a message in an app or interface?

A manual update is usually better than anything over wifi or any automated process.

Which ISP is this? You might also find guidance on how to set up with them around here. But you'll have more luck tracking down messages about the D7000 – the hardware version isn't usually that important as long as you get the correct firmware for your device – in the right section.

I'm curious.  How, exactly, do you expect anyone to "get the correct
firmware for your device" without knowing which "hardware version" is
      involved?

Because the forum section is the most important detail about which to
      worry?  Yow.
