SSID password not recognised

Today I tried upgrading the firmware to v 1.0.6.28. My first upgrade since purchasing 6 months ago. (Netgear Nighthawk R7000)

Now my main WiFi SSID NETGEAR33 fails to work in all devices (laptops, iPads, iPhones) stating that the password is not recongnised. I have not changed the password and the Router setup confirms I am using the correct password. The other SSID's work fine (NETGEAR33-5G, and guest SSIDs).

I tried downgrading the firmware to V 1.0.5.48 but it made no difference. Since many computers need the basic SSID NETGEAR33 I am in trouble!

Any ideas?

Thanks

  • It has been established in other threads on this forum that after this update, you MUST reset to factory defaults (there is an option in the GUI, or by pressing the recessed button on the back with a straightened paper clip or similar until the power LED flashes, it is NOT the same as a simple reboot or power cycle.), then re-enter your setup by hand. Do NOT restore from a saved configuration. This does not guarantee that you won't have problems though. In fact, I suggest you downgrade back to 1.0.4.28 or 1.0.4.30, as the 1.0.6.28 has caused a ton of grief for lots of people. If you do downgrade, you probably need to do a factory reset to defaults after loading it as well.

Look through some of the other threads on this forum about that version.

Having read the dialogue on someone elses problem, I upgraded again to v 1.0.6.28 and did a factory reset. This has re-established my NETGEAR33 on all devices which now accept the password.

The original reason for upgrading the firmware was because of another problem! My printer fails to connect to the network by wifi using the WPS option. The printer works fine when using an ethernet cable to the router and laptop.
