Upon setup router says it can not detect cables.

I just recently moved and have a new internet service. I have factory reset the router, upon setting up the router again when it goes through the steps it says it can not detect cables, I click the question mark at the top right of the Netgear app and it says to make sure Ethernet cable is connected on both ends. I’m using a brand new Ethernet cable, I’ve tried an old one, I’ve reset the modem and the router and I still can’t get it to work.

The modem is Model# TC8717T. I don’t know what you mean by gateway, the provider I use is spectrum internet.

the  TC8717T is a modem/router combo device. its not strictly a modem.

Unless you have it in passthrough/modem only mode (not all device implement properly) it can put you in a double nat.

        options?

        1. put the TC8717T in modem only/pass through mode

        2. put the netgear's ip address in the TC8717t's dmz

        3. put the netgear in access point mode.

just use one of those modes.
