RS700 - 5GHz Wifi - Channel Auto 40
Hello,
I have noticed my wifi 6 (802.11) devices are getting a slower connection around 180mbps, it used to be around 350-450 mbps when performing a speed test.
Upon looking into router configuration, I can confirm the wifi 5GHz is set to Channel: Auto and Mode: up to 5.8 Gbps. However if I click on Advanced Home and scroll down to see the wireless configuration, I do see channel Auto (40) and mode up to 0.7 Gbps.
If I change the channel manually to higher upwards of 128, I do get better speeds on wifi 6 devices.
Any reason why 5GHz auto channel is default to channel 40? How do I correct this manually without choosing a specific channel?
Router Model: Nighthawk RS700
| Firmware Version | V1.0.10.8_2.0.109 |
Thanks
CT
Possible AUTO setting for 5Ghz and the FW system maybe seeing interferences on other channels and picking a lessor noisy channel. Something that the FW systems handles.
I use channel 40 all the time here. However mostly use 48 on my RS700 as I have other noisy channels near by.
You don't have to use AUTO setting. Pick something that works best for your environment. Manual works well. Can try the other channels. Pick something that works best for you.

Don't rely on the auto channel selection in the 5 Ghz band, choose the least used channel 36-48 or 149-161 depending your neighboring 5 ghz wifi channels. Channel 44 provides the best performance in my RS500 router. Higher DFS channels might be clean but you might get kicked out of those channels if any radar interference is detected,
