RS700 5ghz wpa2 default?

Had to do a factory reset and running latest firmware version 1.0.11.6 I can’t seem to set on 5ghz band wpa2+wpa3 by itself. It’s greyed out for some reason. I can seem only do it with 2.4ghz band which only then changes 5ghz to wpa2+wpa3. What in the world is that about with Netgear going with weird defaults? Yes, I’m using band steering by default as well.

Do you have Smart Connect disabled?

WPA3 is only required if Smart Connect is enabled and for 6Ghz requirements.
If you have Smart Connect disabled and using 5Ghz only, possible that Mixed mode on 5Ghz only can only use WPA2.

On mine, Smart Connect enabled, 2.4Ghz settings set to Mixed mode, changes the 5Ghz as well to mixed mode. 6Ghz is set for WPA3 only.

    • Smart connect is enabled. I was just taken back while using that, it defaults to wpa2 only on the 5ghz side. Unless you change it under 2.4ghz to wpa2+wpa3 which changes it to that for 5ghz as well only then. Why would Netgear not default to wpa2+wpa3 on the 5ghz side?

Probably to help ensure 1st connection compatibility. Most devices only use WPA2, sans new gen pads and phones. So once users get a router setup, then it's up to them to make the change if they want too. All on the users hands then.
