The seems to be an issue with and interaction between the Onedrive cloud backup and any Onenote files stored in a one drive folder being backed up to/from a NAS folder. By default Onenote creates...

Welcome to the Community!
What have you set on your ReadyNAS to Onedrive sync?
Your OneNote saves to your Onedrive folder and it syncs with ReadyNAS? and you do bi-directional sync?

Hi Marc,
I have been using the Onedrive cloud backup functionality from shortly after it was released and was involved with the developers ironing out some of the bugs in the sync.
I have 2 sessions configured, one for my Documents folder and one for Pictures. They are 2 way sync. There is an extract of a section of the sync log in the original post.
l am a recent and only occasional user of Onenote, the version in Office 365 and the Android app.
The default notebook, your name one, is created in the root of Onedrive so this was outside my cloud sync and gave no problems. By default, additional notebooks are created in the Documents folder which is when my problem first appeared.
Initially, I thought it was a Onenote issue but then realised the .one files were vanishing and the empty folder of the same name appearing when I wasn't actually using Onenote. That made me look at the cloud sync logs and try creating new notebooks in a Onedrive folder not synced to the NAS. These have been problem free suggesting that the issue is related to the NAS cloud sync.

Just to make sure, the OneNote files are getting deleted from OneDrive and your Local storage? or on the OneDrive and NAS?

Hi Marc,
The contents of OneDrive and the NAS are in sync with each other. The .one file disappears on both and the folder of the same name appears on both once the cloud sync completes.
I suspect the issue is one of timing delays between OneDrive and the NAS when an application rapidly creates, renames, deletes and recreates a file or files starting and finishing with a file of the same name.
There is long standing issue with a similar problem with larger Adobe PSD files when saved to the NAS. At the start of save the application creates a temp file, once the save is complete the file is renamed to the save name. Due to the time delays and the way the sync works. It appears the initial (empty) tmp file gets bounced backwards and forwards, causing only the temp file to survive. With this application I have to remember to save the PSD to local hard disk then copy the completed file to the NAS.
