It seems that ReadyCLOUD is not just turned off, it unregister the NAS from the ReadyCLOUD account it was attached too. If that happens, then the ReadyCLOUD users are deleted along with their home folders. "Only" turning off (switch to off), this isn't triggered.
If you're supposed to have any data in there, you should check it asap. If so, back it up to a normal share. That's the most urgent thing you should do.
i didn't see any communication from NETGEAR here yet, but if ReadyCLOUD servers are down, then no need to try reactivate it or recover passwords of ReadyCLOUD accounts yet, use local one(s), admin or standard user for data access.
- britrbMar 30, 2017Guide
Access is denied to all network attached drives - cant do anything internally anymore, everything has to go through the admin page's browse bit.
When Netgear has sorted their end out, will I have to re add my readynas like the first set up? If I do, will it format the disks? (I dont want it to) I dont have enough spare storage to back the stuff up from the NAS...
Running out of hair to lose!

Readycloud is still not working.
If you needd to and have loacl network access to ehe device create a local users for the NAS and map the network drives under windows using the Local User Accounts. this is what I have had to doc for one of the ReadyNas that I manged for a business thaat the are local to the NAS and can work from the local network. unfortinatlly this will only allow local network access but not allow remote users to connect to the system.

I'm having the same problem here — worked fine yesterday, can't log in via RCloud app or mynetgear today. Password recovery doesn't work, delivers an error message:
There was an error recovering the password. Please retry.
java.net.UnknownhostException: directory.ngxcld.com
I was able to log in to my netgear account to access this forum, though, which seems to indicate that my credentials are still functional.
How real is the possibility that I'll have to reformat/reconnect my NAS and lose all the data on the drives? - Geronimo88Mar 30, 2017Guide
I have two Nas drives one in my studio one at home, the one in the studio backs up to the one at home, I connect to the one in the studio locally to work from. I have been using readynas repicate to do the backup. It failed to back up today, is this due to readycloud being down do you think?
- NodeadpixelsMar 30, 2017Guide
BrentDynamics. How do I configure local access if I can't physically get to the NAS locally? I've tried the IP address from a browser, from Windows Explorer and I can't get in. It just keeps prompting me for my login, which of course doesn't work. From Windows explorer, I see my folders but, I cannot get to any sub-folders. It prompts me for my login credentials, which of course also doesn't work. So, how can I get to the admin page locally if it keeps requiring my login for ReadyCloud which doesn't work??? It's a ridiculous cycle. Sorry if my questions sound remedial - I'm no IT guy. Just a guy that needs to work today - like everyone else - and cannot do it because it seems I never configured it to allow for local access and it seems you cannot configure local access unless you sign in to freaking ReadyCloud.

Yes, The repicate system uses ReadyCloud to mange the connections, and do the backup so with ReadyCloud being down the replicate would not work correctly and therefore it will fail on the backup, as I have a simular setup for one of my clients where they have a local NAS and the remote NAS in my office that gets backed up Each Night

Sinnbest is asking the real question here...
"How real is the possibility that I'll have to reformat/reconnect my NAS and lose all the data on the drives?"
We all need to know this..
- BrentDynamicsMar 30, 2017Tutor
Nodeadpixels you should have setup a default admin account when you initially setup the NAS and set a password
when get prompted for the USERname and Passowrd you enter ADMIN as the user, and try the default password of passowrd once you are in the admin page for the NAS you than click on Accouts and just create an account from there.
you may need to do http://nas_ip/my_password and reset the default admin password to something.
Best of Luck

I think the better questions would be asked like this, but you are right:
How real is the possibility that my NAS has lost all the data on the drives, and I'll have to buy a new non Netgear system.
That is their basic function, storing and protecting data. If they can't do that, I have no use for thier products. We'll see.
- BrentDynamicsMar 30, 2017Tutor
twgriffiths Your data is safe. as I have mentioned in prevouse posts you should be able to login to your NAS using the IP address and login uinsg Admin and the passowrd you have set or use the default password. Youl would than be able to look at your volums and see that your data is there and you can setup local accounts under the account tab and use that local account to map a network drive in windows

I was finally able to log into readycloud. Far as I can tell we lost the readycloud users and their home folders. I don't even have an empty home folder for my main readycloud user after I turned the service back on.

My NAS is at a remote location. How do I re-connect? ReadyCloud disconnected everyone, then came back on line but seems my remote server is off and will not come back up. How do I turn it back on from my remote lcation?
- britrbMar 30, 2017Guide
I'm getting the same message, but my NAS is definately on! I think ReadyNas thingy is coming back in stages. I'm sure yur NAS is on, just wait a bit for Netgear.
- BrentDynamicsMar 30, 2017Tutor
It looks like ReadyCloud is back and running you will have to re-add each of your device to the cloud and re-add each user and assign permissions
I am lucky I have when I setup my clients system forwared external Ports on the firewall to the devices so I can remote login to each system through the port forwards to the admin web page of the nas.

My NAS is 200 miles away! I have to go there and restart cloud services? Okay Netgear, you just lost a client. I am going to replace the servers with something I can connect to directly. Timeafter time I have been patient with all the screw ups in new software releases, now they are having screwups unrelated to anything. This is rediculous!

Kberna1376 wrote:My NAS is 200 miles away!
The easiest way I can think of would be to ask someone on the local network to give you access to a PC, like via TeamViewer, LogMeIn or equivalent. So you can access the local admin page and do what's necessary from there.
- NodeadpixelsMar 30, 2017Guide
@BrentDynamics Unfortunately, the admin / password attempt doesn't work either and I save my passwords on a password protected file that sits on the NAS. So, I apparently don't know what the username or password is for the local access either and I can't check the file to figure it out. Lots of lessons being learned here. This sucks... I'm able to login in now and I see my NAS but it says it's offline. Spending my day playing with Netgear was not in my plans. Not cool.
- trillian796Mar 30, 2017Guide
But any data under the home directories has gone as they have been deleted :-(
- MinkinMar 30, 2017Aspirant
Not deleted. I still have access to my Plex Server running on the NAS. It's running fine. This is a login issue and visibility issue.
Patience.
All will return to normal.

@Nodeadpixels Please try https://kb.netgear.com/21419/How-do-I-reset-my-ReadyNAS-admin-password?cid=wmt_netgear_organic

Was the plex server running under a cloud user ? and did it have a home directory ?
if so please tell me how you managed to get the user directory back
- NodeadpixelsMar 30, 2017Guide
@BrentDynamics Tried that too and I just get a PASSWORD RECOVERY FAILED message. Thanks for the tips - hopefully something gives soon.
- BrentDynamicsMar 30, 2017Tutor
You may need to do a firmware reinstall to reset the password for the NAS: https://kb.netgear.com/20898/ReadyNAS-ReadyDATA-Boot-Menu
Mod Note: Removed USB Boot Recovery link and provided correct link as per jak0lantash's post below. - NodeadpixelsMar 30, 2017Guide
Can I do that with it being offline?
- jak0lantashMar 30, 2017Mentor
If you want to reset the admin password, you need to perform an OS Reinstall via the Boot Menu: https://kb.netgear.com/20898/ReadyNAS-ReadyDATA-Boot-Menu
USB Boot Recovery is not the correct procedure, this is for other problems.
