Backup to DropBox
Can someone interpret the info bubble on the Dropbox cloud feature in the Cloud section of OS 6?
"Selecting root folder will sync entire public cloud, preventing you from adding new sessions"
I have posted here before and was directed to ask Dropbox. Their forum directs me back to ReadyNAS/Netgear as "it is their implementation".
What does "adding new sessions" mean? I seem to be able to add new folders in either ReadyNAS or Dropbox with bidirectional sync on...so am not sure.
When the term "public cloud" is used, I am confused as both my ReadyNAS and Dropbox have shares that are not public. Some interpretation would be appreciated.
Hi Blueray3,
Since the root folder is being sync, the message is just letting us know that there is no need to create other sessions for that root folder.

Hello Blueray3,
Under the firmware version 6.7.5 after enabling ReadyDrop the you will be ask to set for "Local path" (NAS) and "Cloud path" (Dropbox) and set what type of sync direction will be followed.
As for the "Adding new sessions" it means that you can create a new session with same local path share/folder different cloud path folder or vice versa.
It is much easier setting up the ReadyDrop on the latest firmware version. I would recommend to setup ReadyDrop on your NAS running on the latest firmware version.
What firmware version is running on your readynas device?

I think the public path you are referring is the same as cloud path. The dropbox setup is basically selecting a specific folder from your dropbox to sync with a specific share/folder on the NAS. The feature cannot sync the root of the dropbox to a share on the NAS.

Hi Blueray3,
It is nice to hear that Dropbox feature is working fine now. Can you provide the complete message on that info you are referring to on the Cloud tab on the Admin page.

Firmware 6.7.5
So the part about the app "preventing you from adding new sessions" when I sync to the root of the dropbox (in order to make a live sync/backup of the entire dropbox) means that I can't link any other ReadyNAS to the same dropbox? And the part about "Selecting root folder will sync entire public cloud" is confusing because of the use of the word "public" -how does this relate to private shares on dropbox or ReadyNAS?
Thanks
Original quote within OS 6 Dropbox app: "Selecting root folder will sync entire public cloud, preventing you from adding new sessions"
Also, in reviewing ReadyDrop, there are several posts indicating that ReadyDrop has been replaced by ReadyCLOUD...so am not sure how this relates to the Dropbox sync/backup in OS 6.
