I finally removed the version of LMS 7.9 from Nastools and installed this one instead from GitHub

 

https://github.com/NAStools/logitechmediaserver/releases/download/readynas%2F7.9.0_1477086729-nt1/nastools-logitechmediaserver_7.9.0.1477086729-nt1_armel.deb

 

Initially it gave the same error message but after a few minutes it spontaneously started and I have now restored full Logitech Media Server functionality to my ReadyNAS plus Logitech Squeezboxes.
