Plex Playback Error

What were you trying to play? (4k, 1080p, ...)? Was any transcoding required (for either audio or video)?

I tried to instead setup my PC as the server and simply map the NAS media file to the PC over the local network so as to use the PC's processor. With this configuration, Plex will map the files but will not play anything. The folders are not restricted access, but maybe this just doesn't work? Like, is this not sufficient to tell Plex to use the PC as the medium to play the file and just confuses everything?
I use this setup - I mount the entire data volume as a drive letter, with plex installed on the PC. The media libraries are set up using the mapped drive letter. Plex metadata is on the C drive. It's been set up this way for some years, I don't recall needing to do anything unusual to get it to work. Occasionally something will go wrong with the mapped drive - I either re-mount it, or reboot the PC.

The videos vary between 480 and 1080p, most are 720p.
I'll try to mount the volume over the network again; I think I mapped a sub-folder as the lettered 'drive', maybe that caused a problem.

They generally shouldn't be buffering with Plex running on the RN212. Though it might depend on the codecs available on the player.
However, probably best to get the PC server up and running, and see how it performs.
