Well, I just unplugged it and rebooted again and it seems to be working now. Strange.

It is probable that your OS partition is full that's why this happened.

Do I need to take action to fix the full OS partition? What would I need to do?

You do need to fix it, a full OS partition can brick the NAS.
First check to see if it is really full. After connecting with ssh, try
df . -i
df . -h
and tell us the status.
Netgear support can also resolve it (though they will charge - ask about per-incident support).

Here's the output of the two commands:
> df . -i Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on /dev/md0 65536 21401 44135 33% /
> df . -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/md0 4.0G 956M 2.9G 25% /
