ReadyNAS RN524X - Default Raid Version - Recovery
We have a ReadyNAS RN524X We had our ReadyNAS attacked by hackers. They claimed to have stolen our data. They said they would restore it but they did not. I believe they may have simply deleted o...

Windows won't recognize the file system (and doesn't support linux software raid). ReclaiMe RAID recovery software might be the right next step. You can download it for free (but would need to purchase to actually recover anything).
Understood. ReclaimMe doesn't seem to give you the ability to tell it that these 4 disks all should be scanned together. Only one at a time.
ReclaimMe's software for scanning raids requires you to select what version it is, and that does not seem the work either because it is none of the standard versions.
When I look at previews only 15-20% of the image shows. I have to assume it is because how the data is stored on the 4 disks, if I am only looking at 1 at a time... Remember, these are not damaged drives.

What I want is that 8tb chunk.
You can see the 4gb one is there on the top and that has linux files on it.
I am going to pick the first 8tb disk and let it scan overnight. I don't know if scanning one disk is going to work though...
Also, if you want me to get you logs, I need to know the directory they are in, not the UI place to get them.

Yes, that is RAID-1 (mirrored on all 4 disks).
You need to scan the four 8 TB partitions. Does this guide help?
I am thinking that the "NAS Mode" in the upper right needs to be turned on.

They are mostly in the system journal, so unfortunately would require use of the NAS admin ui to get the normal zip file.

You can create a log .zip from SSH. This will create one in the /tmp directory named log_ and the date/time it was created:
rnutil create_system_log -o /tmp/hdsentinel/log_$(date +%Y%m%d%H%M%S).zip

True, but the disks are currently connected to a Windows PC (trying to run ReclaiMe). The volume won't mount, and it isn't clear how much damage has been done to the linux OS.
Given the goal of data recovery, I think it's better to focus on off-loading whatever data can still be found on the NAS.

NAS mode allows you to connect to the NAS via SSH I, for whatever reason, cannot get SSH to turn on in the GUI.
ReclaiMe Free RAID Recovery is what they want you to run, but it needs you to select a RAID type, which no on can tell me and I don't think is supported. I have attempted to scan on all Raid types, no dice.
I raised a support ticket with them asking them what should do in this case.

The RAID type should be RAID 5.
- markbad311Jan 02, 2024AspirantReclaiMe RAID Recovery fails on RAID 5, 0, 10... I believe RAID 6 also fails, but I am running it again and it has been running for awhile now.
I can recover individual drives and get loads of files but they are incomplete because of the striping. I have to rebuild the raid in order to continue the recovery.
So far I have not been successful.
There is a way to do a NAS recovery, but I don't know that it will be more successful as I am working directly with the disks now.
Related question, how do I access the NAS via SSH . Says it is on when I look at it through the UI, but I cannot connect and NAS recovery software wants to use SSH and port 22. - StephenBJan 02, 2024Guru - Experienced User

I suspect that ReclaiMe can't recover the data because the hackers did too much damage. You'd have needed to use FlexRaid to manually create a RAID-6 volume (or RAID-0, RAID-10), and it seems unlikely to me that you wouldn't recall doing that.
Stiil, looking back on post 7, I missed a command. So if ReclaiMe doesn't work on this pass, you could put the disks back in the NAS and boot up again in tech support mode.
Then try this:
rnutil chroot mdadm --assemble --really-force /dev/md127 /dev/sda3 /dev/sdb3 /dev/sdc3 /dev/sdd3 btrfs device scan mount /dev/md127 /data
