where is the Plex app?
Hi all, I went to the app list page but there's no mention of Plex! Does the app/add_on still exist? Thanks :)

You installed the PLEX server on your NAS. You need the PLEX Client software to connect to the NAS and play that content. You need some type of Media Streaming device connected to your TV. This can be anything from a ROKU, a Amazon Fire Sitck or Box, a AppleTV 4, a Xbox 360 or Xbox One.
You can go here: https://www.plex.tv/apps/
To find a device that will work for your needs. I'm not understanding how your LG TV is conneted to the Internet?!?! I'm not sure of the point of the USB Dongle?!?! Does your TV have a HDMI port? As olong as you have that, most of the Media streaming devices will work for you. That Device, be it a Xbox or Roku or whatever, will connect to the Internet either using Ethernet or Wifi. Ethernet is always better and more Reliable, but Wifi will work as long as you have a Wifi Router. The USB dongle? It shouldn't even be in the picture. If you have a really old TV, Is it a HDTV at least or a older SD TV? The Xbox 360 I think you can do a Commonent connection for HD if you have that and don't have HDMI. This is the Red, Green,Blue for Video and Red/White for Audio, RCA plugs. 5 of them in total.
The only other option is a program that just plays directly like VLC. Again, you would need some type of streaming device that supported a App like that. A USB Dongle to Internet?!?! Not sure what that's actually getting you on your TV. Any number of Media Streaming devices will turn a normal dumb TV into a SmartTV. To use the Plex Server onyour NAS, you need to use the Plex Client software on some type of device you want to watch on. Have you tried watching on a Smartphone or Tablet for example? There's PLEX App's you can get for iOS and Android.

JBDragon:
Thanks for your note. Sorry if I wasn't clear before about the LG TV.
The TV is a 1080p HD set but is several years old and does not connect to Wi-Fi natively. At the time we bought the set, LG offered a proprietary USB dongle that connects to a USB port on the TV and allows the TV to connect to a limited number of on-line media services (i.e Netflix). I think the intent was for LG to expand this over the years and add many more on line services but it never took off so today, it really is just a way to connect to Netflix without any extra hardware. The TV also has an internal menu that allows you to connect to "My Media" like photos, music and video and uses the USB dongle to connect to media files stored on a locally available network (like the ReadyNAS). Basically the TV acts like a simple DLNA client. It is still able to see the Plex server running on my MacBook Pro (which points to a library on the Mac, not the library on the ReadyNAS and plays those files. At one time, I also got the TV to see the Plex application on the ReadyNAS and play those files, but that was when the Plex app was on the Netgear list. Since installing the Plex app on the ReadyNAS from the Plex site, the TV sees the Plex server but not the library contents.
All that said, I recently added a Roku Streaming Stick which is attached to the TV (via HDMI) and have used the local media option on the main menu. Like the TV, the Roku app see the ReadyNAS RN202 but reports no files are available to view. I am not aware of a specific Plex app that needs to be installed onto the Roku.
Sorry for the long-winded response. Does that provide any insight as to what my problem is?
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
David

Probably the best mode has ReadyDLNA off and Plex on. Then there is no doubt about what server the Roku is picking up.
DLNA is an option with plex, so start by going to the plex server settings (for instance plex.tv, log in, select the tools icon, then server), and make sure that DLNA is actually enabled. Also confirm the library content on the TV.
There is a plex app for Roku - https://www.plex.tv/apps/streaming-devices/roku/

I have a similar situation with some Samsung equipment, my oldish HD ready TV is HDMI connected to a Samsung BD Home Theatre.connected by ethernet to my home network.
The BD Home Theatre picks up MY Win PC, ReadyNAS and Plex as selectable devices.
The content of folders in my Win PC and Readymas are all there to select.
The content of folders in Plex are not, DLNA was enabled, this is the case whether ReadyNAS DLNA is enabled or not.
Any suggestions ???
Pro 4 running 6.6.0-T117 and latest Plex Readynas .deb etc.

Talking about ReadyDLNA just confuses the conversation. You are saying DLNA was enabled in the Plex server settings, and you were using a DLNA client in the BD home theater?
If you are using a SMART TV plex client, here's something else that might be happening:
plex 1.1.3 wrote:
IMPORTANT: With the security changes in version 1.1.0, if your Plex Media Server is signed in to a plex.tv account, then all of the apps you use must also be signed-in. If you use older apps that cannot authenticate (e.g. LG's MediaLink or SmartShare apps), you can add the IP address of the device to the following advanced preference:
Settings > Server > Network > List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth.(We strongly encourage apps to be signed in for improved security and enhanced functionality.)

Yes, it's best to turn OFF DLNA. If you are paying to use PLEX and not the free version (I have a Lifetime License) You can create a accounts like Netflix. Where there's one for You and one for a family Member, maybe even friend accounts that can log in outside your house and watch your content. That way when to go to watch something you can see what you've watched already and what you havn't. If everyone is just watching whatever, it makes it hard to keep track. What TV episode did you end at? Now you're trying to figure it out. It's a really nice feature.

The Roku, including the Stick version has a PLEX Client that you can download. You need to go into their store. The same place you found Netflix, or HBO Now, and everything else, PLEX is also there. Using the Plex Client is kind of like having your own personal Netflix type service, except it's all content YOU like and it doesn't come and go as it's all on your NAS or PC or wherever you run the Plex Server software and have your Content located. Using DLNA is pretty primative. PLEX will work that way, but it's much better to use the Cliet software.
If you can access the server software on your PC and see all the files, and PLAY a movie or whatever on your PC, It should work in general with the PLEX Client. There are Limitations on what file types are supported being played on a ROKU or AppleTV, etc. So most of my stuff is in MKV. Which is really a storage container for MP4 for example. This allows you to have other things besides just the Movie. There could be other Audio tracks. Maybe Stereo and 5.1 surround or TrueHD. You could have differnt subtitles. It's a Video format pretty much every streaming device will have no problem playing.
In general if PLEX is working just fine on your computer as your using the server software, it should work on anything else using the client software.
