104 to 214
is it possible to take disks from a 104 and put them in a 214 without data loss ?

Yes.
1. Put a scratch disk (must not be from your array) in the 214.
2. Update the 214 to at least as new firmware as what the 104 was running.
3. Verify the firmware update was successful.
4. Power down the NAS units.
5. Remove the scratch disk.
6. Move your disks across (keeping the order the same).
7. Power on the 214.

Even though the RN314 uses an x86 processor, it is supposed to be the same.
I'd go with the RN314 if the price difference is small. Lifetime software chat support vs 90 days with the ARM products. Though check the warranty registration posts - you do need to be careful about the reseller you use. The lifetime CHAT support is only for brand new and sealed products purchased from authorized resellers.

Right - forgot that step. That's because the processor family is different.
It will reset the admin password (to "password") and the IP network configuration to dhcp. That can be easily changed back once you've migrated.

I have a simular quesion but in reverse please.
I have 2 X JBOD Disks from a 314. Can I place them into a 104. Unit doesn't boot and support say being different processor, its not possible?
Something doesn't make sense i.e. if above comments are true and you say one can move from 104 to 214?
Late Edit: Ug...........just realised this is about 214 and not 314. Kind of annoying that there is no method to 314. All OS6 but Netgear has decided to fragment their range by not keeping their OS6 range compatible with each other. Very annoying indeed!
