Access the data files for Plex Media Server installed on my RN214

Hello,

Recently Plex reset some info due to a breach, and I couldn't get it worked out so I just renamed my Plex Media Server (PMS) on my NAS. The trouble is that quite a few items don't register correctly in the PMS, so I have to spend hours trying to fix them. In researching their FAQ/Community, it's suggested to copy the metadata information from the PMS folder(s) as a backup.

Now, I have no idea HOW to access the required folder(s) on my NAS. I've enabled SSH for the admin account, but haven't gotten any further in my quest.

ReadyNAS214; Firmware 6.10.7

Win10

TIA

After you log into the NAS with ssh, navigate to /apps.  The plex folders are in there.

Thx for the prompt response StephenB.

As I've never tried this and am completely unfamiliar, I don't want to do anything that could cause issues with my NAS (I read a comment about "doing things if you're not fam" can).

I d/l'd BitVise for SSH capability, but not sure if that's the best option for a rookie.

Try downloading WinSCP.  Set up an SFTP connection to the NAS, and log in using root as the user with the NAS admin password.

That will give you a GUI.  After you connect, you might need to navigate up until you see the apps folder.

Copying all the files in the plex folder will take a while - there are a lot of small files.  Also, you might not be able to copy them all to Windows (I recall getting some errors when I did that).  So copy them to a folder on the data volume.  (You can enter \\nas-ip-address\sharename in the left pane of the WinSCP interface, and then copy plexmediaserver from the right pane to the left).
