I think you meant 2 TB, not 2 GB.
With XRAID adding the second disk gives you redundancy (protection from a disk failure), not more space.
You should drill down on the orange volume status though - perhaps hovering over the volume status in the web UI or looking at logs.
If you want to maximize space, you will need to back up your data, do a factory reset, and use flexraid instead of xraid. Then restore the data from the backup after the NAS setup is complete. Details are in the software manual - http://www.readynas.com/download/documentation/UM/RAIDiator5-3_Home_SW_en_Nov711.pdf

You said you had an orange volume status. It should be green. There should be some details as to why. I don't own a v2, so I can't give much specific advice.
I do know that on other ReadyNAS you can hover your mouse over the status indicators, and get more information. You can also install RAIDar on a PC (http://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads?cid=wmt_netgear_organic ) and that will also show status (including more details if you hover over the graphic indicators).
Look at the log in the web UI might also give some clues.
"drill down" is slang that means to gather detailed information by focusing in on something.
