Anyone using the new Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player?

This WD TV device lets your watch movies/pics from an external drive, and connects to your HDMI TV.
Looks awesome, connects via USB. Great price, about $80. Checking to see if anyone has used this with ReadyNas Duo or Pro. This would be a great device for anyone not running Media Center.

  • I finally got the WDTV to work with the ReadyNAS Duo via NFS!

My settings are here, substitute your own configuration in the instructions:
    [ ReadyNAS IP is 192.168.0.5 ]
[ NFS share is named MEDIA ]
[ I want the NFS share to show up as "ServerMEDIA" on the wdtv ]

    I did the following:

In the ReadyNAS Share Listing for NFS:
    - Set the Default Access to Read/Write (or Read-Only if wdtv is the only device to mount it)
    - check the box "Enable root privilege-enabled hosts"
    - and enter the IP address of the wdtv
    - Click "Apply"

    In the "Advanced Options" tab:
    - set the share folder owner to "root"
    - Set the rights to Read/Write or Read-Only
    - Check the box marked "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings..."
    - Click "Apply" and wait for all the permissions to be changed.

Reboot the ReadyNAS box. I think this is a critical step here, because I had no success until after I rebooted it.

    On the wdtv:
    - telnet into the wdtv, login as root
    - type showmount -e 192.168.0.5
    - You will see something like:

    Export list for 192.168.0.5:
    /c/MEDIA (everyone)

    - Note the /c/ at the front of the export.
    - update your net.mounts file to have the following:

    xmount 192.168.0.5:/c/MEDIA ServerMEDIA nfs

    - cold boot the wdtv. Either type 'reboot' at the command prompt, or pull the power plug and put it back in.

    Good luck!
  • Hi all,

Figured I'd bump this instead of making a new one.

I have an NV+ with two discs running RAID0 and a WD HD TV Live. (Running native not WDLXTV)
Ideally i want to get it streaming using NFS, as the DLNA doesn't display everything correctly, if at all...

I have been through this thread but unfortunately it almost becomes as different language to me.

If someone has the time can they please help?!

    Thanks,

    Matt

cannot change the share folder group from "nogroup"

  • Hi guys, I followed dweeby's instructions up to the point where he telnets in, but decided not to do it. Works anyway, now I can see all my shares.
Thanks dweeby, not sure why you needed to telnet in? did you try it before that point? :-)
