APC Backups Pro 900 with ReadyNAS Pro 6 Buzzing
Hi all,
I have purchased a new UPS (APC Backups Pro 900) to replace my existing old Backups CS-500 on my ReadyNAS Pro 6. I have noticed that when the new BackUPS 900 is running on battery power, the NAS makes a distinctive buzzing noise which is coming from the PSU.
I’ve done some research online and it seems many UPS’s (this one being an APC BackUPS Pro) use something called a stepped sine wave rather than a pure sinewave. Apparently, this can cause PFC power supplies to buzz when running on battery power. Question is, is the buzzing a harmless side effect or is it likely to shorten the life of / damage the PSU???
Oddly, no such buzzing on battery noticed with a BackUPS CS-500 which is ancient!
Thanks...

I don't really know if the buzzing would be a problem, though I've never heard with my cyberpower.
if you have an option to exchange it for a pure sinewave, then perhaps you should. PSUs shouldn't buzz.

I've purchased it now lol... Seems other folks use it without issue but the buzzing concerns me slightly... Need to speak to some folks who know electronics.
