Apple Extreme (2011 Version) and nas dyndns access help!

I decided to get a new router because I thought my older cheap one was acting up. It turns out it's fine, but now I got this new apple extreme that seems to work fine, after you figure out how to get it working correctly. Needless to say I like the wireless signal better than my old router, but I can't seem to be able to access my nas from outside no matter what. I just finished testing the dyn client on the windows htpc to see if that helps, but still no luck. I have forwarded ports 22, 443, 80 on it and still nothing on this thing. Does anyone have any info on this and how to make it work? I've been thinking about getting another access point since my range is a bit short on the old router, so this may be good for that if I can't make this work. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I forgot to mention that everything is working with the old router which worked fine with dyndns. I also use all windows and sometimes ubuntu on my network. This is the only apple piece of hardware I have ever bought. I couldn't believe this thing only came with 3 lan ports! My cheap router has 4 and all gigabit too.

There are two aspects - one is whether dyndns is working, the other is whether the port forwarding is working.

http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ will tell you if the ports are open (though it will not tell you if they are forwarded to the correct IP address).

Normally you wouldn't forward port 22 btw - it is for SSH access, which you normally don't want to allow over the internet. 80 and 443 would be for http/https access, though you can also substitute different ports (which is what I do). Are you sure these were the ports you were forwarding before?
  • Thanks for the link. According to that page my ports are not open. Do you know if there is a manual describing each function of this router. I have an idea of what they are but on these they don't seem to work like other routers so I just want to take a look if there is a manual for it. Nothing like that is included. I'll keep trying, if not I may just return this since I only have 14 days to return it. I'm looking at another router if I can't get this one to work. I don't see anything at their page. http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/features/wi-fi.html
    Thanks.
  • Well no matter what I did, this router just would not let me use this, so back to the store it went. I decided to just return it and go back to my old cheap router. Now my dyn is working again, along with everything else. Sorry to those who use the apple routers, but I could not find anything concrete to set that up on them so I won't bother trying that again. It's just odd that something that pretty much every other router has just doesn't work on this hardware. Very odd, but it is what it is.
