Belkin UPS F6S400auUSB incompatible?

hey, i have a duo 4.1.6.
i tried using the belkin UPS part# F6S400auUSB (it is an australian product). see website here: http://www.belkin.com/au/IWCatProductPa ... _Id=453571

i connected the UPS usb cable to the nas, but frontview (shutdown tab) or raidar didnt detect any UPS. i then rebooted the nas, but still the UPS was not detected. Bizarrely, when i disconnected the usb cable, my nas notified me that "a UPS has been disconnected". but upon reconnection of the usb cable, again the UPS wasnt detect like before.

so it seems that although the nas kind of detected the UPS, it didnt really detect any UPS information or was able to monitor the UPS. which therefore means they are incompatible?

is there anything that i did wrong, or did i miss something?
thanks

  • I have the same... and I also when i disconnected the usb cable, my nas notified me that "a UPS has been disconnected"

I've dug some deeper digging.. and found that the UPS stuff is done by nut (http://www.networkupstools.org) so I tried to get it to work manually but hit a dead end. It seems that this and other Belkin UPSs are supported by nut, but the readynas does not have the nut driver installed.

    from my readynas..

    cat /proc/bus/usb/devices

    T: Bus=02 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=01 Cnt=01 Dev#= 4 Spd=1.5 MxCh= 0
    D: Ver= 1.10 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1
    P: Vendor=0665 ProdID=5161 Rev= 0.02
    S: Manufacturer=Cypress Semiconductor
    S: Product=USB to Serial
    C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=100mA
    I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=03(HID ) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=usbhid
    E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 8 Ivl=32ms

and a guy got it to work according to this forum thread..
    http://www.mail-archive.com/nut-upsuser@lists.alioth.debian.org/msg03305.html
back then the driver was the megatec_usb but according to the nut hardware compatibility list (http://www.networkupstools.org/stable-hcl.html) this should now work with the blazer_usb driver.

You can see from the nut HCL.. Universal UPS F6C1200-UNV USB (2007 models, vendor id: 0665) -> blazer_usb

Unfortunately.. the readynas does not have the blazer_usb driver

    ls -al /lib/nut
    total 244
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Feb 9 22:14 .
    drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Feb 9 22:14 ..
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 36528 Aug 4 2010 hidups
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 89512 Aug 4 2010 newhidups
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 105384 Jun 10 2008 usbhid-ups

so we can only "hope" that one day Netgear include this nut driver and provide support...
unless somewhere knows how to compile this driver for the readynas and we make our own addon?
Once they include this driver.. then a whole heap of other UPS's should be supported :)
  • Sorry to dig up this old thread, but has anyone tried to get blazer_usb to readynas(x86)?

it would be extremely helpful. Unfortunately i'm not exactly up to speed on how tocompile that properly for my ultra, so any help would be appreciated.

    best regards

    stefan
