Buy Duo or wait for a new model
Hi,
Just joined the forum as a noob, any help will be appreciated.
I have a apple/windows mixed environment at home, and I plan to purchase a NAS server, capable of multimedia and RAID.
I am just about to buy a Readynas Duo, but my question is regarding a new model. Is readynas an outdated model? Should I wait a little more for a newer model? My dream machine would be one capable of iTunes home sharing feature, to feed my apple tv2.

- WhoCares_MentorSince you're looking for a NAS that's capable of multimedia streaming I would recommend you rather have a look at the x86 ReadyNAS product line (Ultra / Pro). While being more costly they offer a lot more bang for the buck, especially if you need/want to stream HD content. The sparc based series (Duo, NV+) are fine for environments where (relatively) cheap redundant storage is required but speed isn't the prime concern and multimedia is not required. Well, that's my personal opinion.
-Stefan - PapaBear1ApprenticeI also would would suggest you seriously consider the Ultra 2, Ultra 2 Plus or if you need some of the business features the Pro 2. Not only are they faster and offer better services, but they are capable of support 3TB drives (and maybe larger when they become available). The Duo will not be able to support drives larger than 2TB. Newegg prices show the Ultra 2 is $100 more expensive than the Duo, but considering the faster file transfer speed (approx 3x) and additional features, it is well worth it IMHO.
- avicenne13AspirantThank you for your prompt answers. The Ultra 2 model is not available at where I live, so I will take your word for it and hold for some couple of months and wait for the purchase.
