cancel firmware update doesn't
Downloaded new fw update - got alert stating, basically, that device was in-use (it was), and was asked: are you sure you want to install? Clicked cancel. Installed anyway.
What model ReadyNAS and what firmware version from/to. If you download your logs and extract the contents of the zip file what does initrd.log look like?
