Current firmware is 6.10.1
Have you tried doing an OS reinstall from the boot menu? Instructions are on pages 58-59 here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/ReadyNAS_%20OS6_Desktop_HM_EN.pdf
The OS reinstall won't affect your data. It will
- reset your network connection to use DHCP with no bonding
- reset the admin password to password
- turn off volume quota (on the volume settings wheel).
So you would need to revisit those settings (particularly the password) when you regain access to the web ui.
A Netgear mod ( like JohnCM_S or Marc_V ) can probably help with your registration problem. Try sending them a PM (private message) using the envelope icon on the top right of the forum page. Include the serial number and the email address you used to create the my.netgear.com account.

I just reinstalled the OS (you're right it is 6.10.1) but this did not help. Still not able to connect to the admin page.
Any other ideas?

What happens when you try to connect to https://nas-ip-address/admin ? (using the real IP address of course).

actually everything just worked out fine now. For some strange reason I was not able to access the admin page using my Chrome browser, so I switched to Internet Explorer and it worked immediately. So I changed my admin password there from the standard one to a new password and now it works fine even from Chrome.
