connecting an old NV+ v2 to a new RN428?

I have maxed out the capacity of my old NV+ V2 (4x3TB in RAID 5 - OS 5.3.13) and just purchased a new RN428 that will initially be populated with 5x12T...
You need to connect both NAS directly to your home network, and they will appear as two devices. RAIDar will see both, etc. with no issues.
Another option is to put all the files on the RN428, and use the NV+ v2 to back up selected shares on the RN428.
Well, you could (via SSH) mount an NV+ share on the 428 so the share appears to be on the 428. You could even do that plus assign static IP's and connect the NV+ to one of the LAN ports on the 428 that's not connected to your home network. But what does that buy you other than potential complications and slow-downs from bucket-brigading through the 428? You can't make it smart enough that it combines the two into one big storage pool.
I run OwnCloud on an old Pro2 running OS6 and mount (in read-only mode) folders on my main NAS to it instead of maintaining separate copies.for OwnCloud. So there are cases where it makes sense, but it's not useful for the general user.
