It looks like your unit was never registered.
If it was purchased less than 5 years ago we would need proof of purchase before being able to process an RMA claim.
Yes 4.2.8 would be the firmware that was on the unit when it shipped. From that one can conclude it should still be under warranty if you can prove you were the original purchaser as 4.2.8 was released in November 2009: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=35724
