Dead ReadyNAS NV, what model can I migrate to?

Came home after a trip and my ReadyNAS NV won't turn on. I have 4 perfectly good disks in there. Any advice on how I can migrate the disks (and my data!) safely to another enclosure? Thank you very much in advance!

Thanks for the info. It's a very old model and I'm happy to replace it with a newer model, just not sure which model I can put my hard drives into and have it read the array without wiping everything clean.

Unfortunately you can't simply migrate your disks to any of the current models.  The file system and the hardware itself are completely different.

That leaves picking up an inexpensive used unit, or using a PC running linux.

  • Sounds like a failed power supply?  You might want to start with Netgear support, as in some geographies they might be able to sell you one.  Plus there are some models that were affected by a service action, and if you have one they'd give you a new supply (even if you are long-past warranty).

Other options are to look for a used NV or NV+, or to attempt to recover data on a Linux PC (or a windows PC with a linux boot disk).
