If you are running 4.2.22, then you don't have a duo at all. You have an x86 platform (ultra-2, ultra-2 plus, or pro-2).

A "hot-add" means inserting the new disk with the NAS running. The advantage of that method is that the NAS detects the new disk insertion, which it cannot do if you insert the drive with the NAS powered down.
