Does my HDD need to be replaced?
Have 2 x 3TB Segate in my ReadyNAS Duo V2 One failed on me last night so have replaced it with a WD Red - the second Seagate is now also showing some early signs - what do you guys think? ...

ATA errors might be the drive, but they can come from the NAS, or from adjacent drives that are messing up the SATA interface.
The 24 pending sectors are definitely the drive. That means there are 24 sectors that couldn't be read. If writes had failed, they would have been reallocated. But you can't reallocate on reads, because you don't know what data to write into the newly reallocated sectors.
I'd test the drive with Seatools. Even it if passes, look at the SMART stats when the diag finishes. Acronis Drive Monitor is one freeware tool that will show the SMART stats (though you do need to give them your email address to download it).
My personal threshold is (a) > 50 or (b) counts beginning to rise, with new reports every couple of days. If I kept this drive in service, I'd be watching it very closely, and I'd make sure my backups are current.

Have any of the counts gone up recently?
Do you have a backup?

The ATA counts are increasing - currently 182.
Backup - currently = none.
Bought a new WD RED HDD - Rsync has just completed however......
"RAID sync finished on volume C. The array is still in degraded mode, however. This can be caused by a disk sync failure or failed disks in a multi-parity disk array."
Not sure what I need to do in order to get the RAID to re-establish.

Ok, well your priorities have just changed by declaring that you have no backup.
You should firstly ( and soon) backup your data.
Then you can test the disks if you wish, but this latest piece of info (resync failure) would make me replace the disk right away ( after backing up the data).
What does the GUI say about the disks, also look at the smart data of BOTH disks (yes including the new one you have just put in)?
Did you test the new disk before putting it in?
What firmware is on the device?

:( - now I am worried and confused.
Here is a screeshot of the GUI
Disk 1 - Brand new WD - R-sync failed, just rebooted the NAS with a Volume scan and noticed that R-sync has started again.
Disk 2 - Seagate drive with errors - this is showing as green.
What would be the easiest way to backup the NAS? Connect another 3TB HDD in a USB Caddy and connect it to the ReadyNAS?
No, I didnt test the new drive :(
ReadyNAS is running - RAIDiator 5.3.12-T3

You can also connect the backup disk to your PC and run a backup utility on the PC to do the backup - probably faster this way.
Once you have everything backed up then we can work on figuring out what is wrong and how to fix it.
it looks like the old disk is about to fail and this is preventing the resync from completing. That is why you need to get the data off asap. You may end up having to set up a new volume with the 2 new disks and restoring from your backup.
