Don't laugh: I need to lubricate the drive holders
My ReadyNAS NV+ is still going strong after all these years. And I appreciate that Netgear is still shipping firmware updates for it. But it has one serious, annoying problem. When I push the release button on the drive enclosure to pop out the handle used to slide the drive from the NAS, they stick. This makes it a sometimes thing to be able to get the drive out of the NAS.
Sometimes the button will depress but the handle won't pop out and sometimes the button won't even go in.
It's very annoying.
I'm wondering if it would be wise to get the holders out of the NAS (all four suffer from this issue), remove the drive from each one and spray some WD-40 or equivalent into the button mechanism.
Suggestions are appreciated.

- SandsharkSenseiLubrication won't help. There were some who found ways to modify the trays to make it easier, but most just use the paper clip method (actually, I use a small jeweler's screwdriver) in the referenced post. It's not like you remove the trays all that often.

I followed the instruction and with a little patience I fixed all my caddies, they still work. Yes, a little lubrication is needed. OR, you can just open them with a paperclip if you don't want to go through the hassle. - vandermerweMasterThe time it would take to fix 4 drive caddies like that surely exceeds by a considerable amount the time it takes to use a paper lip or small screwdriver to open the trays the number of times you would need to during the life of the nas.
- AntimoshAspirantI used a bit of silicon spray, been great ever since.
