When I RMA'd my first Seagate, all I had to do was register it. I have since registered most of the Seagate HD's I have purchased, but especially those in NAS service. From the serial number they will verify that it is or is not in warranty (warranty is triggered by the manufacture date, not the purchase date). When you run SeaTools on it, I would just run the long generic as drives in this situation seem to pass the SMART (yours has already failed) and short tests, but then I have not let my ATA error count get that high. I had one recently that was going up by 3 or 4 a week, then suddenly went up by about 60 and I replaced it. I need to send the failed drive in this week.
Hopefully, you won't have to send it to McAllen, Texas like we do.
