EDA500 disk management?

Hi,
I was wondering about the EDA500 expansion disk model. If I buy a 516 and an EDA500...

#1) Do I get 1 giant volume ( /c/media ) consisting of space from the 516 *and* EDA500? or Do i get two volumes ( 516:/c/media , EDA500:/d/media)

#2) For best utilization, Do I have to do the same type of capacity matching I did with the Ultra's? (all drives the same capacity)

a) capacity matching within the EDA (eg: all drives are some size, perhaps 2TB. or can I mix: one 2TB drive, one 3TB drive, etc)
b) with the host -- a 316 or 516. (eg: do I have to use the same capacity drives in my 516 as are installed in the EDA)

More verbosely:

I have a set of four 2TB drives that I was using with a previous ReadyNAS product. I'd like to buy a 516 with some 3TB drives (maybe four now, two later) and use the previous four 2TB drives in the EDA500.

My question is if I'm going to be "wasting" the capacity of my 3TB drives. I know if I mix capacity within my Ultra 6 (some 2TB and some 3TB), I'm only getting the 2TB of the 3TB until eveything is a 3TB. Does that still hold across the 516 and EDA500? Or are the expansion drives handled a different volumes with their own striping/capacity.

I'd love it if I could buy the 516 with some 3TB drives, and use my old 2TB drives in the EDA and still get the max usage out of my 3TB drives.

-Mark

The volume in the EDA500 is a separate volume.

If you choose to use X-RAID, you should add smallest disks first in each of the main chassis and the EDA. Since the EDA has a separate volume it shouldn't matter what disks are in the main chassis when adding disks to the EDA and vice versa, I think.

Anyway if it does, you could always disable X-RAID, create a single volume on the EDA500 then enable X-RAID again if you want.
