Encryption, backup and the RN314
I am considering buying an RN314 but am curious about the encryption feature. As I understand it the encryption is per volume. Is it possible to create more than one volume? If so are their any implic...

Encryption is set up per volume when using flexraid. Network and local access to the encrypted volume is in the clear (which is generally the case with encrypted disks).
If you are using windows, you might consider a bitlocker-encrypted vhd (virtual disk) that is hosted on the NAS. There are some guides on how to do this if you google. Then encryption/decryption would be done on the client, and the NAS itself would have no ability to decrypt. (I haven't tried the guides myself, but I believe that they work).
