External backup USB HDD for ReadyNAS Duo running RAIDiator 4.1.14?
Hi, I’ve tried to find an answer to my question on this forum but without success. The issue is simple: I own an old ReadyNAS Duo running RAIDiator 4.1.14. I’d like to buy an external 2Tb USB hard drive to backup my NAS using the USB port on my ReadyNas. Who can advise me on w brand/model HDD? Can I use USB 3.0 drives with my ReadyNas? Thank you.

USB 3.0 drives should work if they are <= 2 TB. The Duo's hardware was designed long before USB 3.0, so this is dependent on the compatibility modes in the USB 3 drive.
Backup over USB is extremely slow with the Duo v1 though - you will get faster speeds if you back it up over wired ethernet (connecting the drive to a PC). Even fast ethernet is faster than the USB hardware in the Duo.
