Fastest copy way to copy huge file from NAS to the pc?

Hi,

I would like to know what the fastest solution to copy huge number of files (total size >1.2 TB) from NAS to the PC where it's connected with same LAN. A reason why I'm asking this is that I'm using the NAS with 2 HD (1.5TB each), and I'm thinking of reconfigure the system to 4 HD (8 TB each) using Raid 5. Before re-configure, I need to backup existing files to my PC.

Should I use drag&drop via ReadyCLOUD, or directory copy between USB or giga ethernet? Please help me.

Thank you so much.

    I wouldn't use ReadyCLOUD.

Not sure what you mean be directory copy between USB. You can't connect the PC to the NAS with USB. But if you have a USB drive, you could connect it to the NAS, and back up to it with a ReadyNAS backup job.

Otherwise, you should just use gigabit ethernet.  There are some copy utilities out there that will verify, you could look into those.

  • If copy operation for huge number/size files from NAS to the PC is resonable operation, do you have any way of how to copy recursively ? As far as I know, the download operation from ReadyCLOUD only allowy you do select folder which shound not have any sub folder. I want to download by clicking root folder to download. Otherwise, I have to do the download operation for more than 500 times.

    Thanks,

A normal drag and drop from Windows is recursive.

Copy utilities (freefilesync, teracopy, etc) are also all recursive.

I don't use ReadyCloud, so I don't know how its copy works.  But I wouldn't use ReadyCloud for this anyway - no need, since the systems are on the same network.

        Hi,

I really appreciate for your response. Okay, let me find the copy util for ReadyNas so that it can be copying folder/files via giga ethernet connection. Since my pc is wired connected to the NAS via router, all I need to prepare is the copy utility right? If you know the link to the copy util please share with me, but if you don't have it on your top of your head, that's fine I'll find it.

Regarding recursible copy operation of the ReadyCLOUD, you are right, except special folder under the \ReadyCLOUD\ReadyNAS424\ directory.

        Thanks so much.
