FTPS or SFTP as option in Frontview backup
As you all know FTP is still one of the most common file transfer protocols used to backup or restore data from remote servers. This is however a huge security risk, FTP has no encryption, not on account details and not on the data that's being transfered.
In a time where high encryption and strong passwords are expected this is still a huge security issue.
I would like the Jedi's to look into the possibility of adding security to the FTP protocol and this via FTPS (tls or ssl added to the FTP protocol) This shouldn't be too difficult, it is already available for transfers to and from local shares.
Something more advanced would be SFTP. I can imagine that this is harder to implement because this isn't a real FTP protcol anymore. SSH protocol connection. (May need users to add SSH add-on, more complex, ...)
I would be very happy to see one of these two implemented in future releases so I don't need to be worried that all my data is available to anyone who wants to look into it, or even causing damage.
Hope you guys support this request! It is essential to safe data transfer over FTP.

- claykinAspirantAs I understand it, FTPS is supported currently, but there is no way to force FTPS. Users can still connect using insecure FTP.
There is a way to force FTPS but not via tick box in RAIDIATOR. I want the tick box! - igenericAspirantI have been reading a number of posts related to the setup of SFTP but it is unclear to me if it's possible to activate SFTP in such a way that the 3rd party that will move files to my ReadyNAS will not get root access. I have no technical knowledge of computers beyond the Mac and Readynas GUI's although i've worked with unix many years ago. I'd be ok to use the terminal as long as the instructions are hands on.
Can anyone tell me where to find a detailed instruction on how to get this SFTP setup without giving away root access to my Readynas?
I'm using a Macbook Pro with Snowleopard and have a Readynas Pro with RAIDiator 4.2.17. - XophileAspirantAny news regarding this matter?
- alanharrisAspirantHas anyone been able to get this working via a hack?
Yoh-dah - any chance this could be implemented for a upcoming release? It sounds like people would find the feature useful... - pminearAspirantThis looks like it worked, I implemented it on a ReadyNAS 1500.
The original setup was for a ReadyNAS DUO by user NewAngel. The original instructions were in French, I used Google translate to convert to English.
Instructions are here.

- XophileAspirantOr maybe any other news regarding how to enable sFTP?
