The whole point of warning before there is a problem is to alert you that it would be good idea to take action to expand the volume or free up space.

If we only start warning when there is a problem then that doesn't help with avoiding running into problems.

After a firmware update, an app developer may need to update their app for it to remain compatible so if an app is very important to you it would be a good idea to check with the app developer that they've tested it and found it to be working on new firmware before doing the firmware update.

I don't think there is a way to disable the prompt currently. As you mentioned you don't have to agree to do the update. Generally I would encourage users to use the latest firmware as it will provide the best experience in most cases.
