That test would be a good idea. It would be a change, and if it goes away, you have your culprit. It is unfortunate that sometimes we had to resolve network problems by the process of elimination, but at times it is easier to do.
Looking back over the thread in your initial post you asked if anyone had a direct connection between the Intel chip and the NV+. Does this mean you are running a direct connection when you are getting the lock up. If so, then you only have three possible culprits - the PC, the cable and the NAS. Once you have swapped out two of them, and the problem remains, then the culprit is the third one.
