How to delete the name of a USB HD on an x86 ReadyNAS
I have an external USB HD attached to my ReadyNAS Pro 2 for backup purposes. After updating the firmware of the USB device the ReadyNAS 'thinks' that it is a new external HD and assigns it a new device name - which means that I would have to re-configure all of my backup jobs. When I try to rename the USB device to it's previous name i receive an error message that the name is already in use.
I've had this issue before on a Duo, and there is a nice add-on named Clean_USB_Storage that removes all the names. This is exactly what I need right now for the x86-based Pro; however, the add-on is only available for Sparc-based systems.
How do I get rid of the USB HD names that are no longer needed on an x86 ReadyNAS?

- dsm1212ApprenticeIf you have ssh access, go to /etc/frontview/usb and delete the old, no longer valid, lines from storage.conf which have the names that you want to reuse. Then go back to frontview and rename it. The supported way is probably to edit your backup jobs though. If you mess up storage.conf you are on your own :-). Make a copy of it just in case so you can restore it.
steve - chirpaLuminaryHere is the x86 version of that add-on: http://www.readynas.com/contributed/ewo ... .1-x86.bin
