How to reduce the time to backup my server to ReadyNAS 204 ?

I use ReadyNAS 204 as my server backup storage. It takes about 10 hours to backup my server to ReadyNAS 204. There's about 400GB data in my server. Is it possible to shorten the backup time?

  • Make sure they are both plugged into the same switch or modem. If they aren't, doing so should increase the speed drastically.

Is your network gigabit or fast ethernet?

What backup protocol are you using (windows, rsync,...)?

I am guessing he is using fast ethernet, not gigabit.  At least his times work out to about 11 MB/s

Surprisingly mine were doing the same... I was on a gigabit and it came out to be 7mb/s because I was on two different switches.
